Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed with life?

Unhappy. Unfulfilled. Waddling and drifting Aimlessly.

E.g. Working a dead-end job you dislike. Because you have "no choice".
Or perhaps, a typically uncertain fresh grad who is finding the transition into the "real world", a little too much to handle.

I've been in your shoes (probably even worse off than you). I know how it feels. And thankfully, I got out of the funk. Found my Purpose, Meaning, Direction. Financial Success!

And now, I'm "paying my dues" by helping other young Muslims do the same.

Dear Muslim Brothers and Sisters,

This is Firdaus, the former fast-food delivery boy you read about above. Thanks for dropping by, and letting me share my story. I promise you…if life isn’t a bed of roses for you right now, my story will prove to you that things DO get better…provided you make the right choices. So let’s turn back the clock by 15 years, back when my “best friends” were a motorbike and a bag of pizzas…

Life was Simple…but Tough

It may be hard to believe, but I actually liked delivering pizzas. Because everyone always looked happy when I showed up at the door with their piping hot orders. What I did not like, was the pay. $4.20/hour. In total, that amounted less than $1,000 per month! Even though I was young back then, I had dreams like everyone else. I wanted a family. A big house. A nice car. Pretty standard, yeah? However, with my low pay, there was no way I could afford all that in Singapore! And it’s not like I could do anything else. I did not have good academic qualifications. All I could do was ride a bike. So pizza delivery was right up my alley.

“Am I Gonna Do This My Whole Life?”

That was something I asked myself a lot. Even though it’s an honest profession, the truth is: “You won’t get far in life delivering pizzas.”So one day, after discussing with my family, I decided…something had to change.  With the hard-earned money I saved, I put myself through an engineering course. Why engineering? Because it’s a stable career! Isn’t that what our parents and teachers always tell us? Study hard, get your papers and have a stable job? So I followed “the plan”. But I quickly realised one thing - Engineering is boring! No offense to any engineers reading this. But it just isn’t my thing. Still, I persevered. Pushed myself. And lo and behold…I got my diploma. An exciting career as an Engineer awaits!

Or not…because I asked myself the same old question again:

“Am I Gonna Do This My Whole Life?”

Am I going wake up at 7AM everyday, work from Monday to Friday, 9 to 6, at a job I had zero interest in? I was dragging myself to work, day in day out.Is that how it’ll be for the next 30 to 40 years? Is there a better way to earn? Maybe I hadn’t find out, I thought to myself. Will I be happy working like this for decades to come. It was a confusing time. I was at another crossroads in life.   And once again, I chose to head down the road less travelled…

I Signed Up to Become a Muslim Financial Strategist!

Huh? WTH? How?

Yeah I know that “revelation” came out of the blue. But actually, I’ve been thinking about that for quite a long time. I was keen to work by results and efforts, rather than the clock.{Because I wanted to “live by my own rules/Aspirations”.} Let me explain…

After many sleepless nights of contemplating about life, I concluded, I had to better support myself and my ageing mother financially and live by my aspirations.I came to a simple conclusion: Life will be a lot easier if I had control of my time, career progression and money.

Same for you (and everyone else) too, right? So the next logical question is: Will a career as an engineer, drawing a basic salary of between $3,000 to $6,000 a month, suffice?

The answer is: No.

Yes, I may be able to support a family, a house and my ageing mother. But I’ll be slogging my whole life to pay for those things.

In other words, I’ll become a “slave to the system”. Not what I wanted. So I decided to learn how to “live by my own rules” instead of following society’s plan. And what better skill to learn than Muslim Finance? It’s not something they teach in schools. But it’s something that’ll secure my financial future…if I do it right.

Fast Forward 11 Years Later…

Today, I have a wife and 3 adorable children. My wife is able to stay home, caring for our children. I am able to support my mum, provide her a helper and take care of her medical expenses as well. Alhamdulillah, it is due to the 6-figure annual income I earned.

I’m a Financial Strategist Director at MFAG (Millennial Financial Advisory Group), Singapore’s leading authority in Muslim Finance, with over SGD10million in assets under our care.

Yes…I fulfilled my dreams.

More importantly, I’ve helped many other young Muslims fulfil theirs too!
